Now that i have the E2 Lite, i decided to reinstall E2 Studio afresh, to a different directory so i could get the default install settings. I tried so many different things: different settings, went online seeking information, documentation and help, but it wasn't until after i had decided to return the JLink (thinking that it wasn't working) and swap it for an E2 Lite that i got my first useful response for the JLink from this forum. That emulator would be able to connect under E2 studio to my board and i could set / reset IO pins but i was never able to get the firmware uploaded into the part, even though the build generated a.
